Microsoft blames US stockpiled vulnerability for ransomware attack

The company said it had released a security update back in March to protect Windows system computers against such attacks, but said many computers "remained unpatched globally ". Europol said European companies and governments had heeded warnings and as a result avoided further fallout from the ransomware.
