North Korea quake may have been explosion


BBC reports that Chinese seismologists believe it was a "suspected explosion" but South Korea says it is likely a natural quake because "the specific soundwaves generated by artificial earthquakes were not detected". According to South Korean paper Chosun Ilbo , sources said after the September 3rd test, residents in the area were prohibited from traveling to the capital, Pyongyang, due to possible radioactive contamination. Maria headed north, but forecasters shift track to the west


As of the National Hurricane Center's 8 a.m. update, Hurricane Maria's track has shifted as it has turned north, and now some parts of the US eastern seaboard fall within its cone of uncertainty. Computer models are all over the place on Lee, with both its track and intensity forecasts. Asian stocks fell and the Japanese yen and Swiss franc gained on the possibility of a hydrogen bomb test in the Pacific. USGS can not confirm if N Korea quake natural or manmade


China's official Xinhua News Agency said earlier that its seismic service detected a magnitude 3.4 quake in North Korea and saw the likely cause as an explosion. One dead in Friday night Hartford shooting


A man was wounded in the foot in the first shooting, which was reported at 9:16 p.m. on Concord Street near North Carolina Central University, according to Durham Police. New Haven police officers hurt in shooting, officials say


Two of those shot are police officers and one is a female civilian.
