Lightning, Thunderstorms Strike Parts of the Bay Area


Some of those lightning strikes caused fires and various property damage across the Bay Area. Storms are forecast to bring brief bursts of rain, unsafe cloud-to-ground lightning, elevated wildfire risks, and gusty winds. Hurricane Katia spins off Mexico Gulf coast, menaces Veracruz


According to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center , Hurricane Katia now has maximum sustained winds near 90 miles per hour, and some additional strengthening is forecast over the next day. A tropical storm warning is in effect for an area north of Cabo Rojo to Rio Panuco and south of Laguna Verde to Puerto Veracruz . Tanker, dredger collide in Singapore waters, 5 crew missing
