Australia suspends air missions over Syria as US-Russian tensions rise


The U.S. military shot down the Syrian warplane on Sunday, saying it had targeted an American-allied, Kurdish-led force that is battling the IS extremists in their de facto capital, Raqqa. On June 18, a United States jet shot down a Syrian Su-22 fighter-bomber near the city of Tabqa. Moscow has previously threatened to scrap the deconfliction line, after an April 7 USA cruise missile strike on a Syrian regime airbase in retaliation for a suspected chemical weapons attack against civilians.
