A snow blanket for Christmas

25 Décembre 2017

Afternoon highs are in the 20s but the winds will keep us feeling like the single digits to low teens!

Tomorrow for Christmas mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 20s-mid 30s for the warmest day of the week and winds W/E 5-10 miles per hour. "Remember, you need at least 1" of snow on the ground for it to be considered a White Christmas, some folks got their wish. Factoring in the breeze, it could feel as much as 10° to 15° colder than the actual air temperatures. Winds will die down somewhat Monday night as the low pressure system moves further away to the northeast.

We'll see a few lingering snow showers for the early morning.

The Christmas Day forecast calls for sunny skies, but highs may not reach into the 40s all day, and winds as high as 20 miles per hour. High temperatures will climb to 2 degrees above zero, but we will see a northwest wind around 20 miles per hour.

No snow tonight, clouds will move in across the state and it will be very cold. Beyond mid-week a series of weather disturbances will rotate through the area but for the most part, these systems will only produce liquid precipitation with temperatures above freezing but this system will be watched closely for the possibility for any brief wintry precipitation.

Sunday: Sunny, blowing snow and bitter cold wind chills in the morning, and an afternoon high of 18. Cold weather will be the biggest concern as a portion of northeast Kansas will get below zero for a wind chill nearly every night with Wednesday morning possibly getting down to as cold as -15. Into next weekend, a lot of data has been pointing to some even colder air behind all of the cold air we see this week. The overnight low will be 34. Partly sunny skies are in store for Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures in the 30s.

With Tuesday comes a 30 percent chance of rain.

While most of the week looks dry, there is still that potential for a more sizable storm somewhere off the East Coast by Friday or Saturday.
