Malaysian PM joins rally against United States decision

The International Union of Muslim Scholars' vice-president was supposed to be one of the rally's headliners alongside Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and was supposed to deliver a speech at the gathering. Yes, President Donald Trump is my good friend.

120 countries, including Malasyia, defied President Donald Trump on Thursday and voted in favor of a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for the United States to drop its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, disregarding Trump's threat about cutting off financial aid to countries voting against his move. In a response, Trump threatened to stop US aid to countries that voted against the wishes of the U.S.

According to The Star, Malaysia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Mohd Shahrul Ikram Yaakob affirmed the country's support for a peaceful two-state solution, adding that Malaysia is concerned that the US decision will feed into the agenda of extremists.

Malaysia and 127 other countries voted to condemn the US decision on Jerusalem at an emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, with nine countries voting against and 35 abstaining. Israel now insists all of Jerusalem is its capital.

All the six panellists of a special forum at the Putra Mosque here yesterday voiced their support for Palestine and expressed opposition to the United States recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
