Tavis Smiley Cops Pleas On Good Morning America, Denies Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Tavis Smiley defended himself again against sexual harassment allegations on Monday's Good Morning America, saying, "PBS made a huge mistake here".

PBS engaged an outside law firm to conduct an investigation immediately after learning of troubling allegations regarding Mr. Smiley.

Like in his Facebook post, Smiley reiterating that he had never groped anyone or done anything flagrant in the workplace over 30 years and across six networks.

He said he applauds the women coming forward to share their sexual assault and harassment experiences "to lead us in a conversation about how to create healthy workspaces".

Smiley also copped to having several consensual relations on the show, which he independently owns and is distributed by PBS.

He added on GMA: "I certainly understand people who have the viewpoint that any consensual relationship in the workplace is wrong, but there are also other points of view on this ... while we do not encourage office relationships, we do not forbid them, either".

Smiley, said the employee handbook for his company does not forbid relationships between employees because "I don't know where your heart is going to lead you".

After PBS announced its decision to stop airing his show, he declared, in part, "The PBS investigators refused to review any of my personal documentation, refused to provide me the names of any accusers, refused to speak to my current staff, and refused to provide me any semblance of due process to defend myself against allegations from unknown sources".

Then fallout was swift: Walmart, a sponsor, cut ties with him and live producer Mills Entertainment pulled out of backing Smiley's upcoming theatrical show that was to focus on the a year ago of Martin Luther King Jr.'s life. "Mr. Smiley's own words today coupled with the information discovered during the investigation confirms PBS" decision to indefinitely suspend the distribution of "Tavis Smiley'".
