17 Décembre 2017

Kentucky red-shirt freshman guard Hamidou Diallo dunks the ball during the game against Virginia Tech on Saturday, December 16, 2017 in Lexington, Kentucky.

It did - but just not the way most anticipated.

Rupp Arena is consistently loud.

On Saturday, Kentucky won 93-86 and surely learned. Kevin Knox exploded for 11 of the Cats 13 points during that run.

"We're excited definitely because we know this is a big test", Clarke said of Kentucky. "He's working at it".

The Wildcats (8-1) are the first ranked team and the fourth from a Power Five conference Virginia Tech will have faced this season. "I thought that was the game".

After months of speculation, one of the area's top high school football players has made a decision to play for the Hokies next year.

"They opened fast", he said. "They made more 3's than they have all year and that was the gamble".

Ahmed Hill led Virginia Tech with 20 points, and Justin Robinson added 19.

"If we didn't turn them over, they win the game. The played loose with nothing to lose", Calipari said. Kentucky (9-1) finished 11 of 22 from behind the arc. "We could all learn from James". Green, wearing a custom pair of protective goggles, led the Cats in scoring at halftime with 10 and finished with 17. The over/under total for the game is listed at 157.5 points.

"He's playing the way I want him to play which is score baskets". The Hokies had 11 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. 3 pointer to push in front 42-39 with just over two minutes to play in the half.

Each team had seven 3-pointers in the first half. "For our new guys, it'll be their first opportunity to play in that type of an environment".

"I can not stand giving up baskets".

Union High School, selected Virginia Tech over Duke and Georgia.

Kentucky is the more talented team, but there also a team that is still mostly adjusting to playing college basketball.

Tech's Justin Williams said the press bothered the Hokies initially. They beat them pretty good.

The Hokies finished the half on a 15-4 run to take a 47-41 lead at the break. "They've always been a great team, so it's going to be a great day for competition".

Kentucky's offense was not shabby in the first half. As a team, the Hokies shot 62 percent, which is the best an opponent has shot against United Kingdom in a half all season.

Calipari still believes his team is going to be much better as the season continues. "I don't know that there's an ambiance that's comparable to Kentucky, but if there are, they're in our league". That's why this game was important for us. I bet you this is the youngest team in the last 30 years to to try and compete for something. We are. This team needed this kind of schedule.
