Breastfeeding Mom Says Spirit Airlines Kicked Her Off Flight

11 Décembre 2017

A Houston pianist and cancer researcher is speaking out after she was kicked off a Spirit Airlines flight along with her 2-year-old son and elderly parents, CBS affiliate KHOU reports.

She was on a flight from Houston to Newark, New Jersey, to attend a recording as part of a clinical research study.

A flight attendant is said to have ordered Mei Rui to stop feeding her son Lukas and put him back in his seat even though the delayed jet was not moving.

Shortly afterwards, a flight attendant told her to stop and put him in his seat because they claimed they were ready to take off. "All we want is an explanation for why we were kicked off the plane, and what exactly we were "non-compliant" with, after complying and buckling my son into the seat and keeping him there for the entire duration until asked to deplane". She asked why she was being asked to disembark if the baby was strapped in.

In videos she shared, Lukas can be seen wailing in his seat as his Chinese grandmother tried to console him and his mother pleaded: 'He is in his seat? "The whole plane of passengers can testify that the plane's door was still open, was stationary at the gate, NOT in taxi mode as your statement says".

Rui said that her mother and father, two natives of China who lived through a traumatic time during the Cultural Revolution, were terrified already from the problem with officials from the airline.

"Every parent with a young child can image, you don't want to be that parent on the plane", she told The Washington Post.

When she asked, once again, why they had been kicked off the plane, the representative replied that it was because "she was not compliant".

'I just want to know why we are getting kicked off the plane!' Rui, who is from Shanghai but has lived in the USA since attending college, said. "I think we deserve to know that".

Andreas Claus, the mayor the district that contains Alwine, said that he learned of the proposed sale in a media report. But the plant closed in 1991 and the town's homes began to empty, with many residents leaving to seek work elsewhere.

Instead of answering, the crew banned cell phone use on the flight and Rui was escorted off the plane, where she was met by police officers and a Spirit Airlines representative, who further informed her that she would not be allowed back on the plane.

But the employee refused to give more details.

To make matters worse, Rui's father - who she said has an aortic aneurysm and several hypertension - was rushed to a hospital after collapsing. To protect the safety of our guests and crew, FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulations and airline policies require all passengers to stay seated and buckled during takeoff and landing.

"I had never imagined something like this could happen to our family". We apologize for any inconvenience to our guests.

'As a courtesy, we've issued a full refund to the customer in question'.

The incident is the latest blow this year for the family, which never made it to NY.

The family lost their possession during Hurricane Harvey and are still living in temporary housing.
