Dead After Crash on I-270 in Montgomery County

09 Décembre 2017

Two people were ejected from a vehicle after an accident on I-270 late Friday night, according to Montgomery County Fire officials.

State Police say it happened around 10:00 p.m. when one off-duty officer called State Police to report a single vehicle crash in the high-speed lane of I-270 south, north of Gude Drive. He requested assistance and used his auto to block the damaged vehicle from oncoming traffic.

Officials say the vehicle swerved to avoid hitting cars in the other lane and struck both officers.

Both men moved over to the should of the fast lane when a southbound vehicle began to approach them. Both men were thrown over the road partition, where at least one of them was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was taken to Suburban Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

3 people in the vehicle that struck the men were taken to area hospitals.

Both have been taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the auto traveling northbound was not injured.

Pete Piringer, spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, said one of the victims was Sander Cohen, a lieutenant with the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department and a deputy chief with the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

Police said there is no indication of alcohol involvement in these crashes. The cause of the crashes remain under investigation.

No charges have been filed, and an investigation continues.

No additional information has been released at this time.
