David de Gea-powered Manchester United stun Arsenal to trim City's lead

08 Décembre 2017

EPL giants Manchester United secured a 3-1 comfortable win against Arsenal on Saturday, December 2 to narrow Manchester City's lead to five points.

Two goals from Jesse Lingard and one from Antonio Valencia earned United the victory - Mourinho's first away against a top-six club since he arrived at Old Trafford.

De Gea saved twice in quick succession from Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolasinac shortly before halftime and somehow kept out United striker Romelu Lukaku's miskick when trying to clear from a corner.

The team defended well for 90 minutes.

It was De Gea, however, who Mourinho singled out for special praise, telling BT Sport, "I told him after the match, what I saw today was the best from a goalkeeper in the world".

"You need the keeper to be there for you when the team needs". "All the effort from the players was magnificent".

David De Gea made 14 saves against Arsenal, equaling the record for the most stops in a Premier League match.

"Well, I don't know how to answer that question, but what I do know is where he went is risky". "I leave to you (to decide)", he said, when asked for his thoughts. "I believe at the back, we didn't start well at all and we put ourselves in a very hard position".

"Of course, they can say they had chances, but we fought and had a great goalkeeper, too".

United have until 1pm on Monday to appeal the decision, which means Pogba will be suspended for three domestic games - including Sunday's eagerly anticipated Manchester derby.

For Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has had an often fractious relationship with Mourinho, there was pride in the way his side recovered from a horror start but ultimately a sense of frustration at their failure to take anything out of the game.

"I think the quality of our performance was good but we were not decisive enough", said Wenger after the game.
