The three finalists for the 83rd Heisman Trophy ceremony were announced on Monday night, as the Heisman trust narrowed down the candidates to Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, Stanford running back Bryce Love and Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield is trying to become the sixth Heisman victor from Oklahoma and third Sooners quarterback (Jason White and Sam Bradford) to win since 2003. And what's a good campaign without a little political slander?
While all three players will get to enjoy their moment in the spotlight in NY, it is a foregone conclusion that Mayfield will hoist the trophy on Saturday night. Since then, he and Mayfield have spoken more respectfully of each other. He is ahead of Sam Bradford as the school leader in pass efficiency for a career going into the January 1 national semifinal game against Georgia at the Rose Bowl.
At 19 years and 337 days, Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson became the youngest player to win the Heisman Trophy when he won the award after accumulating 2,144 points on December 12, 2016. His stats this season are nearly similar to his Heisman campaign last season, as the Louisville signal caller threw for 3,489 yards with 25 touchdowns.
Ventura county fire in California burns 65000 acres
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office began evacuating about 300 residents at about 1:45 a.m., according to a news release. The blaze had been creeping there already, but an increase in winds pushed it close enough for many more to flee.
"I'm honored to be chosen as a finalist with these two outstanding players", Jackson said in a statement. "I want to thank all my teammates and coaches for achieving this honor together". While Louisville closed on a high note, they entered November with a 5-4 record and Jackson was forced to play out the final games of his season out of the spotlight.
Griffin won back-to-back Heismans for Ohio State in 1974 and '75. His 1,443 rushing yards ranked second among quarterbacks (11th among all players). Jackson added 1,443 yards and 17 touchdowns rushing the football, and he averaged 411 yards of total offense per game in 2017, leading the nation in a runaway.
Not making that cut was a couple of talented running backs.
