The building of a new Brussels stadium for the tournament had run into delays involving the applications for construction and environmental permits. "We absolutely need a new 45,000-seat stadium and we hope that the competent ministers will grant the permit in January so that a stadium for the 21st century can finally be built in our country".
The other host cities for Euro 2020 are: Baku, Copenhagen, Munich, Budapest, Rome, Amsterdam, Bucharest and Bilbao.
Wembley will now host seven matches, including the two semi-finals and the final on July 12, 2020.
"Over the past four years, Wales has successfully staged three Uefa events - firstly, the Super Cup final in 2014, followed by the men's and women's Champions League finals in June this year", it said.
But the exclusion of Brussels means the 90,000-seater venue will also get group games and a match in the first knockout round.

The statement concluded by wishing Uefa and Wembley all the best and saying it would now concentrate all its efforts on ensuring Wales qualify. It was due to stage matches in the group stage and round of 16.
The decision means that Wembley will stage seven games in total - the final, both semi-finals, a last-16 match and three group games - resulting in the biggest festival of worldwide football in the country since Euro 96.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the tournament, Euro 2020 is to be played in 12 cities across Europe, with cities divided into pairs and each pair sharing matches in a particular group.
Glenn, who has previously pledged that the FA will sink millions into upgrading the national stadium before the tournament, paid tribute to Mayor of London Sadiq Khan for his support.
While the decision has come as a blow to the Welsh, and Belgians, it is a major coup for the Football Association, London and Wembley Stadium, which hosted several games in the 1996 tournament.
