John McCain Lost Thousands of Twitter Followers This Week Over Tax Reform

06 Décembre 2017

Senator John McCain learned the hard way that social media spares no one.

John McCain is losing followers left and right-but, probably, mostly on the left.

Approximately six hours after the senator's message went up on Twitter, 17,000 people hit the "unfollow" button on his account.

Just over one day after McCain's initial tweet about needing only 74 followers to reach 3 million, the senator's account is now almost 20,000 followers away from that same goal.

Polls close! Atlanta chooses 60th mayor in history
Earlier on Tuesday, both Mary Norwood and Keisha Lance Bottoms , as well as Mayor Kasim Reed, cast their ballots in the race. Democrats have held the office of mayor in Atlanta since 1879, and Atlanta has had a Black mayor for the past 44 years.

It backfired. Critics and Democrats used the Republican Senator's plea to take aim at him for supporting the GOP tax bill.

The post read, "We're only 74 Twitter followers away from 3M - spread the word & help us reach this big milestone!"

Twitter users were quick to point out why they dropped McCain. Twitter automatically rounds up high-profile users' follower counts, so McCain's account now shows 2.98 million followers, but the actual count at any given moment (currently 2,980,243) is revealed by hovering a mouse over the number. "Unless you are part of the 1%, there is no reason to help this man because he sure wouldn't help you", said another user.
