Mother of dead Richardson girl arrested for child endangerment

17 Novembre 2017

Wesley Mathews originally told police he'd ordered Sherin to stand outside by a tree at about 3:30 punishment for not drinking her milk. He says he told Sini to come with him, and she voluntarily went to dinner with him, knowing Sherin would be left alone.

After detectives used receipts, eyewitnesses, and cell phone records to put the family at the restaurant, they determined his wife Sini willingly left their adopted daughter home alone that night, placing her in "imminent danger of death, bodily injury, or physical or mental impairment", according to the arrest affidavit.

According to an affidavit issued by the Richardson, Texas, Police Department, on October 6 - the night before Sherin Mathews went missing - Sini and her husband, Wesley Mathews, along with their biological child, went out to dinner at a restaurant about five miles away from their home, leaving the little special needs toddler at home alone for over an hour and a half. Her body was identified two days later.

The mother of a Richardson 3-year-old who was reported missing and later found dead was arrested on Thursday. Police said they were away for a hour and a half and when they returned home, Sherin was still in the kitchen.

Police on Thursday captured Sini Mathews for deserting or imperiling her embraced youngster, Sherin.

After weeks of searching with drones and K-9s, authorities found Sherin's body on Sunday, Oct. 22 in a culvert. Police say Wesley Mathews ordered his daughter to stand next to a tree behind the fence at their home at around 3 a.m. on October 7 as punishment for not drinking her milk. Her father told police the little girl's death was caused by choking on milk, according to an arrest affidavit. Eventually, Sherin began to drink the milk and he said he "physically assisted" the girl in drinking the milk while they were in the garage. He was charged with felony injury to a child.

Wesley Mathews, who was initially arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office is still working to determine what killed Sherin Mathews.
