Raiders Place Rookie CB Gareon Conley On Injured Reserve

Oakland drafted Conley 24th overall in hopes that the cornerback could boost a secondary that struggled a year ago.

Conley hadn't practiced since October 6 while dealing with a shin injury.

Conley broke up a pass the first time he was tested against the New York Jets in Week 2. He played in 14 games last season with the Raiders, recording 17 tackles, and had played in one game this season.

The Raiders were enamored with Conley's cover ability in the offseason, but he's been sidelined since Week 3 after his shin injury worsened.

State athletics spokesman Fred Demarest recently said Matta and Ohio State supported Beverly's efforts to play right away. State Wolfpack!" "I think it was the best move for me to set me up to be the most successful man I can be".

Conley's injury was originally classified as "shin splints" by general manager Reggie McKenzie.

"We'll see what's happening after when we come back from the weekend and see if we can do anything early in the week, and we'll make our determination from there", McKenzie told reporters last week regarding Conley. "He was feeling better, then he had a setback". "But we're going to give him every opportunity to see if he can do it". They face Tom Brady and the Patriots in Mexico City on Sunday.

Now that the Raiders have chose to move on and give Conley a chance to fully heal for next season, Oakland's top cornerbacks going into this Sunday's game against the Patriots in Mexico City will be TJ Carrie, Sean Smith and Dexter McDonald, with David Amerson trying to work his way back from a foot injury that forced him to miss the team's last game, against Miami. Oakland's opponents have a 110.5 passer rating and have completed 71.2 percent of their passes, which both rank as the third highest in National Football League history.

The Raiders (4-5) return from the bye this week in need of a strong finish to get back to the playoffs. The Raiders also reinstated defensive tackle Darius Latham from the reserve/suspended list to take Conley's spot on the active roster.
