Ex-CFL, Cowboys tryout failure, charged in wife's gruesome murder

15 Novembre 2017

Another resident in the condominium building reportedly called the police after witnessing Anthony asking for help while crawling around in the building's hallways.

The scene where KC McClanahan, 28, was found dead showed that she "put up a desperate struggle" before her death, the Associated Press reported.

After asserting his family had been attacked, Anthony McClanahan did not give the sergeant his wife's name or location, "even when asked multiple times", the documents say.

She suffered cuts to the front, back and sides of her neck, as well as other defensive wounds and carpet burns. A paracord bracelet knife, believed to be KC McClanahan's, was found on the floor near her hands, police say. He is accused of killing Keri "KC" McClanahan, 28, sometime between the night of November 1 and early in the morning of November 2.

According to the documents, McClanahan laid on his stomach as officers approached and began convulsing, and then began moving back and forth across the ground.

He and his wife rented the condo in Park City a few days later, charging documents said.

Keri's family told the newspaper that she and McClanahan had a history of domestic violence, which ended at least twice with Keri fleeing from her husband. The officer said McClanahan made a "snow angel motion".

Originally from California, McClanahan played four years with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League in the mid-1990s after a collegiate career at Washington State University.

Keri McClanahan, who went by KC, had been planning to leave her husband but wanted to help him get on his feet first, her sister Heather Gauf said. Police said he picked up his 8-year-old son from his school in Arizona on October 3 and traveled with him through Nevada and Utah without the knowledge of the child's mother - who was not KC McClanahan. While he had prospects to play with the Dallas Cowboys, he was cut from the team prior to the 1994 regular season and never played a game in the NFL. Gauf said she became concerned about her sister when McClanahan wanted her to marry him a year ago soon after meeting in KC's hometown of Bellingham, Wash., where Anthony was working as a personal trainer at the time.

"I really want to see justice for my sister", she said. They had been married since January.

"She's such a sweetheart", said Gauf, who remembered her sister as an adventurous, athletic woman with a great sense of humor who leaves two children of her own.

Gauf said Anthony McClanahan tried to blame his behavior on injuries he'd suffered while playing football. The Summit County attorney's office charged Anthony McClanahan with first-degree felony murder Monday.

Anthony claimed someone had attacked him, his wife and his child, but authorities said they found no evidence that anyone else had been in the condo the night of Keri's death, nor did they find a baby.
