A man who was fatally shot in a struggle with a Louisiana police officer has been identified.

"Mr. Toney's manner of death is homicide".

The bullet entered the front of Toney's chest and travelled from left to right as it passed through his body.

According to Louisiana State Police, the shooting happened just after 6:00 p.m.as a Baton Rouge Police Officer was assisting a Department of Children and Family services case worker with an investigation.

According to State Police, Investigators learned that a social worker from the Department of Child and Family Services was conducting an investigation into possible child abuse allegations committed by Toney. "Help is on the way", Jones said he told Toney.

Cellphone video showed Sterling pinned to the ground by the white officers before he was shot, but police said he was reaching for a gun. While taking Toney into custody, he remained non-compliant and was placed into handcuffs for safety reasons.

"During the course of that investigation, a struggle ensued with officers and the suspect", said Sr. Tpr.

After EMS arrived, officers removed the handcuffs from Toney so paramedics could render aid.

Toney was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

"My message is 'Let's wait for the facts to come out, '" she says.

Police tape covered the entrance to the complex in north Baton Rouge, and about 100 people gathered on other side, some yelling "Black lives matter", and "No justice, no peace".

The identities of the shooting victim and officer are not being released at this time, but Lee told reporters the officer sustained a minor injury and was wearing a body camera at the time of the shooting. Calvin Coleman, who identified himself as Toney's father, said his son was black.

"It hurts", says Coleman, adding that he had been standing behind the police tape for some time waiting for answers.
