Since this private cloud product will be delivered as a managed service, it will bring some of the benefits associated with the public cloud to a private solution, the release said.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Rackspace Monday unleashed what the duo is calling a breakthrough OpenStack private cloud service that offers the same pay-as-you-go economics of public cloud at a 40 percent or more cost savings.
"The pricing will be around things like virtual machines and terabytes or gigabytes of storage, so it is a more simple approach than having to piece together all of the parts of the Lego puzzle", the local Rackspace head said.
The pay-per-use infrastructure is available as a managed service, and is another step created to remove any possible barriers to private cloud adoption.
They cited analyst house IDC which predicted that "pay-as-you-go consumption models will account for 50 percent of on-premises and off-premises physical IT and data centre asset spending by 2018".
"We are proud to partner with HPE to continue enabling customer success with private clouds". Customers can then choose to add on extra expansions when needed, and only pay when they use it. "We knew we could make private cloud the preferred platform for the majority of enterprise workloads, but only if we integrated and gave customers a true cloud experience".

"What we have done is created a new standard for how private cloud is going to be consumed with better economics than public cloud", said Rackspace Executive Vice President of Private Cloud Scott Crenshaw in an interview with CRN.
Customers will have the benefits of a public cloud offer, such as the pricing structure, elastic infrastructure and a simplified IT in a private cloud environment managed by Rackspace.
And Rackspace and HPE also touted the advantages of their solution over a public cloud service, as its single-tenant model means that customers can "eliminate the performance and "noisy neighbour" issues commonly found in multi-tenant environments, and can more easily meet security, compliance and data sovereignty needs".
The private cloud OpenStack development effort between the two companies, which involved 100 developers from both companies over the course of a year, was the brainchild of Crenshaw and HPE President Antonio Neri. "And, with this common goal in mind, our companies plan to extend this model to Rackspace's entire managed private cloud portfolio in the future, including VMware and Microsoft Azure Stack technologies". This includes a 99.99 percent API uptime guarantee from Rackspace.
Rackspace Australia and New Zealand managing director Angus Dorney said the pay-as-you-use model follows the vendor's private cloud-as-a-service offering, which it also offered in partnership with HPE.
