Google Assistant can now broadcast messages through your Google Home devices

13 Novembre 2017

The latest feature to hit Google Assistant is broadcasting, which allows you to broadcast your voice from your phone to the Google Home devices around your house.

You can now use your Google Home devices as an intercom system.

Starting today, you can broadcast your voice from your Assistant on your phone or voice-activated speaker, like Google Home. All these Google Home devices have to be on the same Wi-Fi network, and at least one member of your household has to sign into their Goole account on each of the Google Home devices. Do Not Disturb must be off, as well. So, if you need to round up the family or your co-workers in the morning, all you have to do is say "OK Google, broadcast it's time for school" or "OK Google, broadcast it's time for a meeting". For example, saying "Ok Google, broadcast it's dinner time" will play a dinner bell sound on your Google Homes. You don't even have to be home to broadcast; the feature will work from anywhere with a cell connection, which is a nice touch.

Do you have to say "broadcast"?

Now you don't have to wear out your voice shouting up the stairs.

Where is this feature available?

And if you're just leaving the office, you can let your family know you're coming with a simple "Ok Google, broadcast I'm on my way home!" to the Assistant on your phone, and it will broadcast to your Google Homes.

See Google's help center for more examples on how to use this feature.
