Meryl Streep has attempted to clarify a groping allegation she made against Dustin Hoffman in a Time magazine interview she gave almost 40 years ago.

Streep's rep added: 'There was an offense and it is something for which Dustin apologized. And Meryl accepted that, ” the rep continued.

After these claims resurfaced in the wake of multiple allegations of sexual harassment against Hoffman, a representative for Streep has told E!

In the 1979 interview with Time, Meryl reportedly claimed that Hoffman groped her the first time they met.

In the interview, which resurfaced following the recent sexual harassment allegations against Hoffman, Streep recounted her first meeting with her "Kramer vs. Kramer" co-star.

Streep's biography "Her Again: Becoming Meryl Streep" written by Michael Schulman in 2016 discussed other interactions the star had with Hoffman. "'What an obnoxious pig, ' I thought", the three-time Oscar-winning actress said at the time.

In fact, they didn't get on during the filming of "Kramer vs. Kramer".

He wrote that Hoffman slapped her in the face and taunted her about her boyfriend John Cazale who died of cancer to draw a reaction during an emotional scene for Kramer vs Kramer.

Upon being contacted for the story by the Hollywood Reporter, Hoffman responded: 'I have the utmost respect for women and feel bad that anything I might have done could have put her in an uncomfortable situation.

When accused in a recent Hollywood Reporter article of sexually harassing writer Anna Graham Hunter when she was a 17-year-old intern on the set of Death of a Salesman, Hoffman responded, "I have the utmost respect for women and feel awful that anything I might have done could have put her in an uncomfortable situation".

It comes after Hoffman apologized to an author who claimed he sexually harassed her and pawed at her rear when she was 17-years-old while on the set of the 1985 TV film Death of a Salesman.
