Parent Holding Teacher Hostage at Calif. School

An elementary school in Riverside has been evacuated after reports of a parent barricaded in a classroom.

Police responded to the school for a disturbance involving the parent, who became upset and barricaded himself inside the classroom with the teacher when officers arrived, Railsback said.

Railsback confirms that this is a hostage situation.

The incident was reported at 11:15 Castle View Elementary School, at 6201 Shaker Drive, said Ryan Railsback, a spokesman for the Riverside Police Department. It isn't clear whether the suspect is armed, or if the hostage is a student, another parent or an employee, according to Railsback's statement.

Police are evacuating students from the campus, but are not allowing parents to pick up their children while the area is on lockdown, Grayson said.
