A report from App Annie says that downloads for the App Store and Google Play combined reached almost 26 billion worldwide - which is 8 percent growth year over year. The measurement firm attributed the download growth on Google Play to activity in emerging markets.
Looking at the consumers who are spending on the applications, the reports said that consumer spend on both App Store and Google Play combined saw 3 times the growth rate seen for downloads.
On the other hand for iOS downloads, the report said China is the leading country with app downloads along with the United States and Saudi Arabia following next. From the second quarter to the third, iOS app downloads jumped 8% - which represented its biggest gain since the first quarter of 2016. "Coinciding with the disruptive launch of Reliance Jio's network in September 2016, Google Play downloads in this country have increased at a staggering pace", said report. Google Play downloads led iOS downloads worldwide. It claims that the Google Play downloads were nearly twice as high as those in Q3 2016. The company analyzed the data from two major app stores, Google Play and Apple's App Store. App Annie acknowledged Reliance Jio's launch a year ago for the massive increase in downloads.
Moreover, South Asian countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia also played a crucial role in growth of downloads. Both these countries had high growth rates, Indonesia ranking fourth place and Vietnam on seventh spot in Q3 2017.
