After Reliance Jio and Airtel, BSNL has now come up with its VoLTE-capable feature phone in partnership with Micromax. BSNL's Micromax Bharat 1 is all set to launch on 20 October and it will be accessible to buy from the same date. With the Bharat 1, both BSNL and Micromax are aiming to target India's 500 million plus population that is still aloof from the connected world.
Commenting on the announcement, Rahul Sharma, Co-founder Micromax said, "BSNL is one of the major service providers in the country and has a vast reach and network that spreads across every nook & corner of the country". It is packed with 2000mAh battery. For photography, it has a basic VGA selfie camera, and a 2-megapixel camera at the back.
Jio had in July announced a 4G feature phone for Rs 1,500, returnable at the end of three years for a full refund.
The phone comes with a BSNL SIM card but the device supports dual-SIMs which means the phone is not only restricted to BSNL's network.
BSNL and Micromax have come together to take on the Reliance Jio Phone with Bharat 1 mobile.

Last month, ET report suggested that domestic handset maker Micromax will be launching an ultra-affordable 4G VoLTE phone named "Bharat 1" to compete with Reliance's 4G JioPhone in first week of October. The "effective cost" of using the Micromax Bharat-1 will be Rs. 3,364, compared to Rs. 3,336 that a user of Jio Phone would spend on the device, Sharma said.
Micromax Bharat-1 comes with Micromax Entertainment feature that includes unlimited fun ranging from Live TV to Music, Movies and Videos which are available under the suite of entertainment apps for the users to watch their favorite content on the move. Bharat 1 will be completely manufacture in India.
BSNL, which operates across the country except Delhi and Mumbai, has over 98 million mobile subscribers and 16 million landline customers.
Anupam Srivastava, CMD, BSNL added, "We are proud that we are partnering with Micromax, a home-grown player which has been a key player in India's growth journey and has contributed more than 150 million mobile users and this number is ever increasing". Data affordability, connectivity and ease of using technology are the three barriers for the users to get a connected experience. While users have to pay an amount of Rs. 1,500 for the JioPhone, Airtel is costing Rs. 2,899 from the customers who're looking to purchase its Airtel 4G Smartphone aka Karbonn A40 Indian.
