Perhaps, the movie producer feels privileged by the opportunity to share " Settlers of Catan" with billions of people around the world. Gail Katz, who acquired the rights to Catan in 2015, is on board to produce.

Lego Movie filmmaker Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are also attached to produce. That task has fallen upon Blaise Hemingway to write.

Designed by Klaus Teuber and first published in Germany in 1995, The Settlers of Catan has players filling the roles of settlers on the island of Catan, with each attempting to build and develop holdings while trading and acquiring resources. Thus, Sony sees vast potential, and has hopes of constructing a possible multi film franchise from the game's world. It's a German board game which has players compete in forming civilizations and building roads.

"Catan" is just the latest board game to move to the big screen, joining "Battleship", "Ouija", and of course, the cult classic "Clue".
