Lightning's Steven Stamkos scores first goal in almost a year

13 Octobre 2017

Stamkos received a pass from Vladislav Namestnikov and easily shot the puck into a wide-open net as the Lightning were on a power play, putting Tampa Bay up 3-1 at 3:49 of the middle period. Stamkos missed 65 games last season with a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. Koekkoek, entering a make-or-break season, scored his first two career goals, which should bolster his confidence as he fights for playing time on a deep blue line.

Slater Koekkoek got his first two National Hockey League goals, and Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov also scored for the Lightning. Alex Killorn had four assists, while Andrei Vasilevskiy made 36 saves.

Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust each had a goal and an assist for the Penguins (2-2-1).

The goal was also one for the record books, as it allowed Stamkos to move into a tie with Vincent Lacavalier for the franchise record (112) for power play goals. His second extended the lead to 5-3 late in the second.

Koekkoek's first National Hockey League goal gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead at 6:07 of the first period.
