Funeral procession begins for fallen Somerville police officer

13 Octobre 2017

"Difficult and heartbreaking do little to describe the pain we, the Remigio family and friends, are continuing to experience after the tragic death of our father", the Remigio family expressed in a written statement read by one of the late officer's close friends, Somerville police Lt. James Polito.

Remigio was riding his motorcycle in New Hampshire Sunday when investigators say a teenager racing down I-95 hit him.

For more than six hours Thursday, first responders from across the Somerville area, as well as from neighboring communities, stood in line to say goodbye. Remigio died Monday at a hospital; Ricci was not injured.

Hotel evacuated, over 100 firefighters and helicopters battle on
The Twelve Apostles Hotel was being evacuated on Thursday evening as fires spread around the Oudekraal area. Two of the helicopters are coming down from the Eastern Cape while the 3 was on its way from George.

"He worked hard to make sure all our traditions were kept, despite it being that much harder to continue even when missing such an integral part of our family", the daughters said in the statement.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers turned out to mourn Somerville officer Louis Remigio, a widowed father of two, at Friday's funeral Mass in Medford.

Funeral services will be held this morning.
