With the production of the new 1.5-litre petrol engine centralised at this factory, it is now Ford's global hub for manufacturing of compact cars and low displacement engines.
Ford India strengthens its commitment to the Government's "Make in India" policy with the new 1.5-litre Ti-VCT, three cylinder petrol engine which will be made available for customers in India and for global markets. The new engine, which will replace the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine in all models, can also run on 100 percent ethanol. Ford's engineering team in India has steered the development of the new engine with key insights at every stage - from design, development to production. More importantly, the engine will have more than 80% of its parts sourced from local suppliers.
The new 1.5-litre Ti-VCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing) naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol will make its debut on the updated EcoSport and is tuned to produce 120 bhp and 150 Nm of peak torque.

The engine's balance shaft is supported by hydrodynamic bearings and works to eliminate natural first-order vibrations typical in standard three-cylinder engines. Furthermore, a belt-in primary oil drive system contributes to the reduction in noise and friction.

Ford's Sanand factory started its operations past year, and has an annual production capacity of 2,40,000 vehicles and 2,70,000 engines.
