Jaromir Jagr Signs One-Year Deal With Flames

05 Octobre 2017

Jagr is expected to play an integral role in Calgary this season for a Flames team trying to make it back to the postseason for the third time in four years following a five-year playoff drought.

The puck drops on the 2017-18 National Hockey League season on Wednesday evening, and just in the nick of time 45-year-old Jaromir Jagr has found himself a roster spot, signing a one-year deal with the Calgary Flames earlier this week.

"Of course I (like playing with young players)", Jagr said.

There were several other moments where the famous Jagr sense of humor brought laughs from the assembled media on Wednesday.

In Calgary, Jagr is joining a team that has Stanley Cup on the mind. When he will be ready to actually don the Flames uniform in a game is a question Jagr is not yet ready to answer.

"This is different, so I don't know how my body is going to react", Jagr explained. "I didn't play a game for five months and I didn;t have any team practice for five months, so I practiced on my own most of the time, but it's not the same". "His work ethic, how he handles himself as a pro, that's only going to help our young guys".

"Last two years in Florida I played with Huberdeau and Barkov, combine their age and they're still younger than me". "Age aside, this guy can play".

Jagr became a free agent when the Florida Panthers decided not to offer him a new contract after last season.
