No. 7 Georgia carries unbeaten record into Tennessee

01 Octobre 2017

Freshman defensive backs Ameer Speed and Mark Webb are also at Neyland Stadium.

I saw my first SEC game in 1969. Shoop, in his second season with the Vols, has played Georgia as defensive coordinator at Penn State and Vanderbilt, and as a the defensive backs coach at Boston College in 2001. He has really instilled a mentality of winning those trench battles on both sides of the ball.

Although there is only one loss between them, Tennessee and No. 7 Georgia appear to be headed in different directions.

Tennessee was not one of those challenges. You know that. It's loud. In the past two games he has thrown a total of 25 passes - compared to the 27 Quinten Dormady threw against UMass alone - but he has been effective and has just one turnover since taking over at quarterback. And he had a handful of other passes that easily could've been picked off as well.

Freshman defenders Malik Herring, Nate McBride and Monty Rice came with the team to Tennessee. Florida got five rushing touchdowns from its running backs; its running backs had not scored a rushing touchdown in the past nine games. If the defense brings the heat and puts him in critical situations all afternoon, he'll make mistakes that could tilt the game in Georgia's favor. But good teams take advantage when the opponent is in turmoil, and that's what Georgia did Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Vols' offense managed to convert just one of their 12 third down attempts for the game.

D'Andre Swift dragged the pile for a few yards, then a few more, all the way to the Tennessee 10-yard line.

Catalans prevail in Million Pound Game
Catalans will remain in the top-flight next season while Leigh will play in the Kingstone Press Championship following relegation. They're tears of relief, there was a release of a huge amount of tension from everybody involved.

The Vols' fans might be unreasonable but there's no reason a team situated in Knoxville, Tennessee with a 100,000+ person stadium and their financial backing can't win 9-plus games annually.

That streak ended on Saturday. There's a chance they could be looking past Tennessee. The last six games between Tennessee and Georgia have been settled by eight points or less, including three of the last four decided by a field goal. Kendrick said it would be "huge" to have more of Tennessee's injured players on the sidelines encouraging them. They were determined to not hear "Rocky Top", and we barely heard it all day. This time they moved 77 yards in five snaps, culminating in a 7-yard strike from Stidham to Ryan Davis.

For the first time this season, Georgia's defense will face a quarterback who isn't fancied a runner. The score of that game?

Tennessee is 3-1, but you would think it was 1-3 based on the mood in Knoxville.

Tennessee didn't play particularly well against Florida, though the Vols showed their grit by erasing a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Callaway didn't have a reception, and Brandon Johnson finished with zero catches as well. Had they won either of those games, they probably win the SEC Championship against LSU and faced (and probably beat) Ohio State with Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno leading the way.

- Georgia. Week after week, it's the same story for the Bulldogs (5-0, 2-0 SEC). But they might as well be.

"I think there have been good defensive players at Georgia for a long time". The Vols are still very likely to lose at least to Alabama on their remaining schedule, which means Georgia or Florida would have to finish with at least four conference losses to negate the tie-breaker they have because of their wins over the Vols.
