Central govt docs to retire at 65 years: Cabinet

"Around 1,445 doctors of various ministries/departments of the central government would be benefited", Nadda said.

It also approved enhancement of superannuation age of doctors in major port trusts under Ministry of Shipping.As per the decision, doctors shall hold administrative posts till attaining the age of 62 and thereafter they will work in non-administrative positions.

"While we will work separately to fill vacancies of doctors in these places, the move is to ensure patient care is not disrupted", Union Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said after the cabinet meeting. The revised policy will cover allotment of defence land on lease and grant of permission in defence areas and cantonments to access service licensees and companies registered with the department of telecommunications. "Revolutionary and pro-patient step, doctor-patient ratio and health services will improve", he added. It will also help in retaining the existing strength of experienced doctors, thereby providing better patient care. Around 1445 doctors of various Ministries/Departments of the Central Government would be benefitted, Shri Nadda informed.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday chose to increase the retirement age of central government doctors, including those working under the AYUSH ministry and in the railways, to 65 years.

The latest cabinet decision comes with a view to bring about parity between doctors serving in various cadres.

"The decision will not only enhance cellular connectivity in the country but also improve mobile signal reception in the cantonments", Prasad said.
