Young man dies after suspected assault in Derry

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to an assault which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.


At approximately 2am Jordan McConomy from the Rossnagalliagh area of the city was in an altercation with an other male in the William Street area and died a short time later in hospital as a result of his injuries.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact PSNI detectives at Strand Road in Derry city and by quoting reference number 228 of 24 September 2017.

Police in the North are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sinn Féin MP Elisha McCallion has expressed her condolences following the death of a young man in Derry.

The Foyle MP said: "The city woke up this morning to the sad news that a young man lost his life in an incident in the city centre last night".

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and everyone affected at this unimaginably hard time".
