Korean FM threatens 'merciless preventive action' against US

On Tuesday, Trump threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea in a speech to the UN General Assembly if it moves against the USA or its allies.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, speaking before the United Nations, angrily responded to US President Donald Trump's UN remarks in which he referred to Kim Jong Un as "Rocket Man".

He is in NY to attend the UN General Assembly. "We continue to strive for the reasonable and not the emotional approach.of the kindergarten fight between children".

Pyongyang insists it needs nuclear arms to protect itself from a U.S. invasion, and carried out its sixth atomic test earlier this month, earning itself an eighth set of United Nations Security Council sanctions. However, he added: "It is up to our leader so I do not know well".

His executive order expanded the Treasury Department's ability to target anyone conducting significant trade in goods, services or technology with North Korea, and to ban them from interacting with the USA financial system.

The White House said North Korea's energy, medical, mining, textiles, and transportation industries were among those targeted and that the US Treasury could sanction anyone who owns, controls or operates a port of entry in North Korea.

European Union ambassadors reached initial agreement to impose more sanctions on North Korea, going beyond the latest United Nations measures, officials and diplomats said. He says the US keeps pressing Russian Federation and China to do more to squeeze Pyongyang economically.

The 2018 Games are to be staged in Pyeongchang, just 80 km (50 miles) from the demilitarised zone between North and South Korea, the world's most heavily armed border.

The bellicose speech came after months of escalating tensions over advances in the rogue weapons programme operated by Pyongyang, which has defied tough sanctions to launch its sixth and largest nuclear test and to fire a series of missiles over Japan.

Lavrov on Friday again pushed a proposal by Moscow and Beijing for a duel suspension of North Korean weapons tests and the U.S.

The South Korean agency confirmed there were two earthquakes Saturday. Lavrov suggested that a neutral European country could mediate.

"I am now thinking hard about what response he could have expected when he allowed such eccentric words to trip off his tongue", Kim said. He also called Kim a "rocket man" on a suicide mission.

South Korea said it was the first direct statement of its kind by a North Korean leader.

Japan, the only country ever to suffer an atomic attack, described the threat as "totally unacceptable".

"We have no idea about what actions could be taken as it will be ordered by leader Kim Jong-un".

Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, said Trump is "very serious" about holding other countries ― especially China ― accountable over their relationship with North Korea. It did not name specific weapons systems.

"North Korea's nuclear weapons and missile development is a grave threat to peace and security in our world and it is unacceptable that others financially support this criminal, rogue regime", Mr Trump said as he joined Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Moon Jae-in for a meeting in NY.

President Donald Trump says the USA will impose additional sanctions on North Korea over the communist country's nuclear weapons buildup.

North Korea's foreign minister likened Trump to a "barking dog" in response.

"All relevant sides should exercise restraint and dedicate themselves to easing the situation rather than irritating each other", said Lu Kang, China's foreign ministry spokesman.

However, the rhetoric was starting to rattle some in the global community.
