Rajasthan's 'Falahari' Baba held for rape, sent to 15-day judicial custody

The so-called Baba was produced before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pravin Sharma after his arrest from a private hospital.The so-called godman was admitted to a private hospital after he came to know about the registration of a rape case by a Chhattisgarh girl against him.

Aravali police station SHO Hemraj Meena said Falahari Maharaj has been sent to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Alwar for medical examination.

It was reported that the incident took place after a month when Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted in two rape cases. Falahari Baba has millions of followers in the country and overseas.

The woman had lodged a complaint against Falahari Maharaj in Bilaspur alleging that he sexually exploited her at his ashram located in Alwar on August 7. The victim's family has been among the Baba's followers for several years and claims to have given large donations to his Ashram.

Initially, the girl and her family, who were following the baba since last 15 years, were reluctant to approach the police, but after the conviction and sentencing of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, they made a decision to file a complaint against the Falahari baba. She was allegedly told that the Baba couldn't meet anyone during an "eclipse" and asked to stay the night. She was also asked to recognise the Baba's disciple who had dropped her at Alwar railway station, while the police sealed the godman's room.

"We have arrested the Baba under Section 376 (rape) and section 506 (criminal intimidation)", Rahul Prakash, Superintendent of Police Alwar, told IANS on phone.
