Arsene Wenger: Alexandre Lacazette not yet ready for 90 minutes

18 Septembre 2017

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, whose side had lost their last five league matches at Chelsea, applauded his side's response to their 4-0 thrashing at Liverpool in their last away match.

The Gunners had the better chances, the best when Alexandre Lacazette shot wide after Aaron Ramsey had hit the post, while Shkodran Mustafi had a goal ruled out correctly for offside. When you play at home, everyone expects you to win the games.

The Brazilian was already on a yellow but was shown a straight red by referee Michael Oliver for a studs-up tackle on Arsenal's Sead Kolasinac. We've shown that quality many times. It's true you have to accept criticism when we deliver the kind of performance we had at Liverpool - the only way to respond is on the pitch and that's what we did today.

Chelsea was held to a 0-0 draw for the first time in nearly 20 months on Sunday when Arsenal produced a disciplined display to frustrate the Premier League champions.

Victor Moses, Pedro and now David Luiz are the three players who have been sent off in Chelsea's last three games against Arsenal.

"Obviously we know it's a hard venue to come to and we can't really be that disappointed with a point because it was well-fought by both teams, but the fact that we thought we could have come away with a win was disappointing".

Following today's result, the reigning Champions now have 10 points after five games, the same total we had at this stage previous year.

"You learn from defeats and during the season every team will have a bad patch and bad games".

Luiz is now set to miss Chelsea's next three domestic matches, ruling him out of Manchester City's visit to Stamford Bridge at the end of September, and Conte would not be drawn on whether his suspension would be appealed.

The points were shared on the day in the 0-0 draw, however the Chelsea website clearly feel aggrieved that they will be without Luiz for at least the next three games. "With a bit more freedom we would have won the game".

The Gunners produced a much improved performance against the Blues as they were able to head back home with a point from the clash in west London.

Earlier, Danny Welbeck and Pedro had good opportunities to score.
