Ryan says tax overhaul plan to come this month

17 Septembre 2017

Hatch, a Utah Republican first elected in 1976, spoke to MarketWatch on Wednesday, a few hours after House Speaker Paul Ryan said a tax-reform outline will be released the week of September 25.

Speaking in an AP Newsmaker interview, Ryan said he believes the president "made the right call" when he announced he would give Congress six months to figure out what to do with former President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program before dismantling it. DACA has given almost 800,000 young people protection from deportation and the right to work legally in the country.

Ryan previously supported the so-called border adjustment tax to raise revenue to help pay for tax reform (the tax would have raised an estimated $1.2 trillion), and House Republicans said in the tax plan they released past year that they envisioned the plan being revenue neutral.

"I talked about our challenges, saying that's all fine, but honestly in rural West Virginia, we don't have connectivity", Manchin said. "I sincerely doubt that we'll be able to get to that level on the corporate tax rates". The leaders were expected to discuss DACA, among issues, according to congressional aides and the White House.

House Speaker Paul Ryan and other power centers in Congress have begun assembling groups to work on immigration as Washington continues to race the clock ahead of a March deadline to save the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. We're not going to get the far reaches of the outside right or the outside left.

Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Thursday that the tax reform plan would be revenue neutral, if economic growth spurred by the legislation is taken into account. "First, Donnelly has been recognized as one of the most bipartisan senators in the US Senate at this time, and you don't earn that reputation by refusing to meet with people from the other party", Downs noted. "And so that's what we're going to give a shot", he said.

Examining an unrepresentative sample of the roughly 1.6 million C corporations in the United States, a report by the Institute for Policy Studies looked at 92 companies that paid an effective tax rate lower than 20 percent and found that more than half had cut jobs between 2008 and 2015. Trump later tweeted there was no deal, but defended seeking a protection of DACA recipients with "massive border security".

Trump met Tuesday with Democratic Sens.

Ryan has gathered key Republicans into an informal group to discuss a plan to save DACA, which protects young undocumented immigrants brought to the USA as children from deportation, and to discuss what border security and other reform measures Republicans may want.

"I don't want to do that", Hatch flatly said in the interview.

"We have a full bill". "It's about the middle class and it's about jobs and bringing jobs back to the country..."

That proposal, favored by House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., might have raised a trillion dollars over 10 years but generated fierce opposition from some businesses.

"I intend to fight it with everything I know how", said Rep. Tom MacArthur, R-N.J., who represents a district where 43 percent of tax filers claim the SALT and signed a bipartisan letter to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin urging him to preserve the break. "So I do believe that there's got to be a solution to this problem".
