The Tropical Storm Warnings are discontinued for the Florida Keys, Florida Bay, the Florida east coast south of Jupiter Inlet, the Florida west coast south of Bonita Beach, and for the Northwestern Bahamas.

We're in the middle of the most active part of what's been a busy hurricane season so far.

Irma was about 105 miles (170 kilometres) northwest of Tampa, with maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour (110 kilometres per hour).

In Georgia, utilities reported around 1.2 million customers without power Tuesday morning, down from a peak of more than 1.4 million on Monday night. Though she was downgraded to a tropical storm, winds and rain are still causing problems.

Irma, one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes on record before it arrived in the United States, killed 43 people in its rampage through the Caribbean and at least 11 in Florida, Georgia and SC. That risk extended to the coast of Georgia and parts of SC.

Irma plowed into Georgia and toward other parts of the Deep South - Alabama, Tennessee and the Carolinas.

Fuel ships returned to Florida's reopened ports on Tuesday hoping to provide relief to the millions of evacuees trying to get home in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

But the weather service reminded residents of Florida's eastern coast that "life-threatening surf and rip current conditions" were likely byproducts of Irma.

Power lines down across the state of Florida. A third crane was reported down in Fort Lauderdale.

The body of a 62-year-old man who climbed a ladder behind his home was found under debris on the roof of his shed in southwest Georgia, where winds topped 40 miles per hour, Worth County sheriff's spokeswoman Kannetha Clem said. Another man was killed in Sandy Springs, an Atlanta suburb, when a tree fell and "literally cut the home in half", said Sharon Kraun, the city's communications director.

Brad Whitworth of Texas is riding the storm out in Tavernier, Florida, just south of Key Largo.

Target is hiring more than 100000 holiday workers
Target plans to hire 100,000 team members, including 1,500 in the Boston area and 3,000 across MA , for the holiday season. It is also extending Restock, its next-day home delivery service, to more markets ahead of the holidays.

In Forsyth County, a female passenger died after a downed tree struck her vehicle, the sheriff's office said.

In total about 4.5 million FPL customers were affected by the storm, with more than 1.7 million having their service restored already, mostly by automated devices.

The Keys are linked by 42 bridges that have to be checked for safety before motorists can be allowed in, officials said.

More substantial structures, like churches and businesses, showed less damage, although access to harder-hit islands remained closed.

The station says coastal areas, including Savannah and Tybee Island and Brunswick, were under a storm surge warning of 4-6 feet.

Irma turned Jacksonville's Memorial Park into an unrecognizable lake.

To recover restoration costs, FPL files with state regulators and, if approved, adds a storm surcharge on the monthly bills of its almost 5 million customers.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper also declared a state of emergency for all 100 counties in his state ahead of Irma.

When water raced through the streets of Jacksonville, it brought record levels of storm surge along the coast and inland rivers.

While Hurricane Irma, of Category 5, lashed out at the state, the police helped the evacuated woman, taking her to the Baptist Hospital in Kendall. And because hurricane winds spin counterclockwise and lined up perfectly perpendicular to Jacksonville's St. John's River, "it just pushed the water from the Atlantic right into the river", National Hurricane Center spokesman and meteorologist Dennis Feltgen said.

"These tower cranes are created to withstand winds up to 145 miles per hour, not a Category 5 Hurricane", the city said in a statement last week.
