Police examine surveillance video after woman found dead inside Rosemont hotel freezer

12 Septembre 2017

In the footage, a woman wearing mirrored sunglasses is seen smoking and speaking on film. In the background a woman who looks like Kenneka appears to be sitting on a bed.

The Facebook video has stoked outrage on social media, where many users believe Jenkins met with some kind of foul play.

The medical examiner's office said it was awaiting the results of a toxicology test and further investigation by police before making any determinations regarding Jenkins' cause of death. Gary Mack, a spokesman for the village of Rosemont spoke with the Chicago Tribune and said police have identified everyone in the video.

"Yes, they've looked at it and continue to look at it and all the other social media videos and posts", Mack said "They are leaving no stone unturned as far as trying to corral everyone they can and talk to them and interview them about what happened and what was going on that night".

Jenkins' body was found in the walk-in freezer Sunday, about 24 hours after concerned relatives contacted the hotel and police. She was last seen leaving her home on Chicago's West Side to go to a party at the hotel at around 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

"Jenkins' mother, Teresa Martin, said police told her Jenkins apparently let herself into the freezer while inebriated and died inside".

The freezer where Jenkins was found was located in a construction site of the hotel, and was not now being used to store food.

"I don't think anything has been ruled in or ruled out at this point", Mack said.

Most importantly, he said, it's unfair to punish people who were brought here as children without any choice. About a dozen people gathered Monday at a park in Los Banos to rally support for Dreamers in Merced County.

But Martin has since questioned that account, telling local media gathered outside her home Sunday that the friends' description of events keeps changing.

After the hotel referred her to police, Martin said she called 911, and dispatchers told her to wait a few more hours because Jenkins could be out with friends. The teen's body was discovered nearly a full day after she went missing. They apparently took Jenkins' phone with them, and the auto Martin had leant her daughter for the party.

Martin also blasted the hotel, claiming that her daughter would still be alive if the hotel had acted to search for her earlier.

According to Martin, she received a call from her daughter's friends around 4 a.m. on Saturday that Kenneka was missing. "She was holding on to the wall", Martin said. The friends also had the teen's cell phone.

"I believe someone in this hotel killed my child", Martin told WGN.

Mack said it may take weeks to determine what happened.

An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted Sunday, according to the medical examiner's office, and an investigation into Jenkins' death remained ongoing. "When I used to break down and cry and want to give up, she would tell me she's got my back", Harris said.

The clip has fueled speculation online that the young woman's death was no accident, with skeptics endeavoring to decode the video and surface clues that point to a potential setup.
