BlackBerry Priv will not get Android Nougat upgrade

12 Septembre 2017

In an interview with UTB Blogs, Alex Thurber, BlackBerry Mobile Solutions General Manager confirmed that the BlackBerry Priv won't be getting Android 8.0 Oreo, and the DTEK59 and DTEK60 might be on a similar boat.

He did mention that BlackBerry will continue to roll out security updates for the Priv, and that these updates alone "required a complex matrix of partners working together, including the licensees, carriers, Qualcomm and BlackBerry". Unfortunately for owners of its more or less recent Android phones, they will be running into those limits hard. Although, the BlackBerry Priv did get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update previous year, company's experienced how hard a task it is to roll out update. For PRIV owners though, it may be time to look at the custom ROM scene to extend the life of your device. However, Thurber did not shed light on the Nougat update for the DTEK smartphones and said it is most unlikely that phones will see a Nougat update.

The Priv was debuted as a hybrid model by BlackBerry, with a curved-edge display and a physical slide-out keyboard.

Originally launched back in March in India, Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) comes with features like 5.7-inch full HD screen, 3GB of RAM, 16MP primary camera, and 3600 mAh battery. Launched back in January a year ago, the BlackBerry Priv is a BlackBerry device running Android OS. It has an 18MP rear camera with LED flash and 2MP front camera for selfies. The smartphone offers 32 GB internal storage and a 200 GB micro SD card slot.

TCL, the company that builds and designs BlackBerry phones, is reportedly planning to launch a younger brethren of KEYone, and could launch in October.

There was some good news to come out of the, er, "Blogcast", though.
