31 Août 2017

President Donald Trump plans to spend part of his weekend in Louisiana, where Tropical Storm Harvey threatens heavy rain in the days ahead.

Trump's action on Monday will make available federal assistance for the state, where severe flooding from Harvey is expected, and allows the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate all disaster relief efforts. He signed the declaration we requested within a few hours of our making the request on Sunday evening.

"We kind of waited this morning to let the water settle down before we got over there, so we're about to leave now and we're going to see how that goes and send another crew first thing in the morning", said Cajun Navy 2016 organizer Todd Terrell.

"It is extremely risky for motorists to drive through the water when they don't know how deep the water is or how strong the current may be", Edwards said at a meeting of emergency responders in Lake Charles on Tuesday.

Edwards said he spoke to Cajun Navy leaders on Tuesday, and the asked for help with fuel, which is becoming in increasingly short supply in the storm's path. Flash floods warnings went into effect through Thursday as areas along the coast faced tropical storm warnings.
