Hurricane Harvey's landfall in East Texas has led to catastrophic flooding in the Houston area.
Hurricane Harvey hit Houston hard this weekend, to devastating effect. Where the game will be played is ESPN's decision.
One venue that could jump in is the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, which is run by SMG property management - the same company that manages NRG Stadium.
SMG Vice President Doug Thornton has offered the Superdome as a contingency option if the game can not be played in Houston. BYU athletic director Todd Holmoe tweeted an update on the game Sunday afternoon, saying that plans will be announced when final.
SB Nation reported Sunday morning that "both schools will meet with ESPN on Sunday to discuss moving the game away" from Houston.
North Korea Launches Three Short-Range Missiles
Pacific Command issued a statement shortly after the launch, saying that one of the missiles blew up within moments of launch. In July, it launched an intercontinental ballistic missile, which North Korea claims could reach "anywhere in the world".
"He wants fans to know that LSU is not in control of this game", Franques said. In a story from The Baton Rouge Advocate's Ross Dellenger, Superdome officials say that they haven't been contacted yet, but would be willing to take the game if necessary. "Ultimately, it's up to NRG and ESPN, the organizers of the game, to decide where the game will be played if the game is moved".
Sources tell Eyewitness Sports that the game will not be cancelled; it will be played, but where it will be played is still uncertain.
"'Obviously their preference is to play the game in Houston, ' Thornton said in a statement, 'but we wanted them to know that New Orleans is an option if alternatives need to be considered'".
The Superdome would probably look for a decision to be made sooner rather than later if it was to host the Cougars and the Tigers so it could inform its staff in time to have enough workers at the venue. Later that season, LSU's game with SC was moved to Baton Rouge after devastating floods hampered Columbia, SC.
LSU lost a game previous year, because of Hurricane Matthew.
