Trump says debt ceiling 'mess' could have been avoided

27 Août 2017

President Donald Trump on Thursday blamed House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for what he said is a "mess" over raising the debt ceiling, slammed former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper for questioning his fitness for office and defended the way he's delivered recent speeches.

The battle between President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell keeps escalating, with the two leaders reportedly getting into heated phone calls earlier this month about how to move a successful Republican agenda on Capitol Hill.

Trump has kept up the pressure on Congress this week, threatening on Tuesday to shut down the government if lawmakers do not fund the building of a wall along the border with Mexico.

"I requested that Mitch M & Paul R tie the Debt Ceiling legislation into the popular V.A. Bill (which just passed) for easy approval", Trump tweeted. "Could have been so easy-now a mess!" he wrote in two tweets Thursday morning.

They're anxious about the toll Trump and McConnell's relationship could have on the GOP's overall agenda. "We're not going to do that".

He even made sharper comments in private, describing the President as entirely unwilling to learn the basics of governing, musing about whether Mr Trump will be in a position to lead the party into next year's elections and beyond.

Trump's Thursday tweets could potentially signal a new direction in administration support for raising the debt ceiling, but White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders insisted the President is committed to raising the debt ceiling without additional provisions added to the bill.

The official also suggested that the relationship between the White House and the Senate Republican leader has been unaffected by the personal rift between Trump and McConnell.

"This is about paying for what we've spent", Mnuchin said.

Andy Murray compte trois victoires en Grand Chelem, dont deux à Wimbledon (2013, 2016), et une à l'US Open (2012). Et ce en raison de douleurs à la hanche. " Je me sens vraiment bien ", a-t-il assuré.

Congress returns September 5, and there are only 12 legislative days that month to find at least short-term solutions to keeping the government open and raising the debt limit.

McConnell and Ryan may lose their jobs in leadership if Republicans decide to blame Congress instead of Trump for the party's failures.

"There was just no traction on it at all", said an aide on the Veterans Affairs Committee.

"There will be hearings and a process in both the House and Senate", McConnell said. The New York Times first reported on Tuesday that Trump and McConnell have not spoken since that call. Sources told CNN's Manu Raju that Trump also vented about a bill that limited his ability to ease sanctions against Russian Federation on his own.

"I think we'll be able to produce a much better tax code", McConnell said.

But tensions between Trump and Senate Republicans could rise again August 22, with Trump planning a campaign style rally in Phoenix, Arizona.

McConnell said he is working with a small group to launch the republican plan for tax reform after Labor day.
