China, South Korea vow to improve ties amid missile shield row

Xi's remarks came in a message on Thursday to Moon marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Beijing and Seoul, close economic and trade partners who have maintained generally friendly relations despite South Korea's military alliance with the U.S.

President Xi Jinping said on Thursday that he is ready to make concerted efforts with President Moon Jae-in of the Republic of Korea to properly address the differences between the two countries. "The steady development of our relationship through our joint efforts during the 25 years since we established diplomatic relations has brought real benefits to the people of both countries and has actively contributed to the development of peace in the region, and these are precious fruits of our relationship", Xi said.

President Moon Jae-in's top security advisor said Thursday that the temporary deployment of four additional launchers of a US missile defense system is expected to be completed "in the near future".

According to a release from the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moon took note in his message to Xi of the "significant development" in bilateral relations since 1992.

Relations between China and South Korea soured in recent months after Seoul brought United States missile systems to the peninsula with a stated goal of protecting its territory from North Korea.

Sir will quite possibly be the only person in the world who can pull of the name " Sir ", and I'm kind of okay with that. He said the name seemed to suit the child, saying "And then Sir was, like, man, come out the gate".

Ties between China and South Korea have been strained since Seoul agreed to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence anti-ballistic missile system.

Beijing has retaliated against Seoul over THAAD by suspending visits to South Korea by Chinese tour groups and trips to China by South Korean entertainers.

Chinese consumers have also boycotted stores owned by the South Korean firm Lotte after it was revealed that it had allowed the missile shield to be installed on its land.

Wang said he hoped the two countries would further advance mutual understanding and trust.

North Korea has conducted two nuclear tests and dozens of missile tests since the beginning of past year, significantly raising tension on the heavily militarised Korean peninsula and in defiance of U.N. Security Council resolutions.
