Chris Davies: Celtic not making up the numbers in the Champions League

26 Août 2017

Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon wants to be drawn in the same Champions League group as Celtic this week - so he can experience the "electric atmosphere" of Parkhead again.

"He is with the South Africa national team and we will look to see him after that". With a lot of squad depth and talent, PSG surely have what it takes to challenge Bayern for first place. "He was just a player we liked and were aware of more than anything".

"I think it's a good draw", he said.

Celtic might have to fend off interest in players they already have, though.

"It's a little bit special for me because when I was young I was a big fan of PSG but it's the first time I'll have played against their first team", Ntcham said.

He told Celtic Quick News, "Celtic were interested in me last season, so it's really fun to play against them now".

PSG have not been past the quarter-finals of the Champions League since being taken over in 2011.

While it is not yet confirmed, it is widely believed that this will be the last season we see Gianluigi Buffon in the Champions League. We had Manchester City and we drew with them twice, so it gives us confidence.

With five Premier League teams included for the very first time and Celtic in Tuesday's playoff, there was plenty of British interest - and with pot two looking every bit as strong as pot one for the draw, the prospect of a group of death was amplified. As I said before the draw was even made, for us to be in Europe would be fantastic for us.

"We are going to embrace it and look forward to it". We're always confident - and why not? We are there for a reason.

A fee of around £850,000 has been agreed with Ajax Cape Town for the 20-year-old, who will undergo his medical in his homeland under the supervision of Celtic physiotherapist Tim Williamson before he joins his national team for their World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde next week. We feel we are a better outfit than we were this time a year ago.

According to a report on BBC Sport last week, Celtic want to secure the services of the winger on a season-long loan deal this summer. "But yes, I hope he is".
