Chris Gimenez heads back to Twins' bench against Diamondbacks

21 Août 2017

After completing 16 innings through his first two starts this month, Colon got through only five in a loss to Cleveland on Sunday while giving up three runs and seven hits with four walks.

Bartolo Colon is still winning games in the Major Leagues at 44 years old, and on Sunday he accomplished a truly impressive feat for a pitcher.

Arizona lefty T.J. McFarland, making his first start since July 1, 2014, was chased after getting only one out and allowing run-scoring hits to Byron Buxton, Jorge Polanco, Max Kepler and Chris Gimenez. The team had optioned RHPs J.J. Hoover and Silvino Bracho to Triple-A after Saturday's game and recalled RHP Braden Shipley. Colon, who had been 0-2 in his career versus the Diamondbacks entering the weekend, is the 18th pitcher to accomplish this feat. Meanwhile, Arizona lost for the fifth time in six games.

Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano is going on the 10-day disabled list with what the team called a stress reaction in his left shin. Minnesota manager Paul Molitor said he was unsure what brought about the soreness, and Sano had an MRI. RHP Dillon Gee, who has a 2.13 ERA in four relief appearances with the Twins this season, will start the other game.
