Rwanda: Kagame to Be Sworn in Today

They were seen off by Acting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe and other senior government officials.

The statement read, "Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, is attending the presidential inauguration of President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, taking place today in Kigali, the country's capital".

Uhuru who was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta departed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly before 9:00 am.

President Kagame was elected into power after his victory in the Rwandan presidential election held on August 4.

Kenya has had friendly relations with Rwanda and President Kagame's re-election is expected to renew that friendship and alliance.

The dignitaries will witness the swearing-in of Paul Kagame on Friday at the Amahoro National Stadium for his third term of office.

Kagame garnered 98.79 per cent of the total votes cast in the poll that attracted two other candidates.
