Some Tips If You Plan On Driving During The Solar Eclipse

The Library in the Forest is inviting those looking for a place to view Monday's solar eclipse to join them on the observation deck for an eclipse viewing party. "The last time a path of totality for a solar eclipse crossed the United States from coast to coast was 1918".

Remember, the timing of when the eclipse will happen is dependant on where you live.

Solar glasses have special filters that block harmful rays from the sun and allow you to view the eclipse safely.

It is so attractive... the first time I saw a total eclipse of the Sun it was like looking up into the sky of a different world.

The eclipse is expected to end near Charleston, S.C. around 2:45 p.m.

The company then went to Google who in turn promptly banned them from using their service and removed its YouTube page as well. Participants of the rally included white supremacists, white nationalists, neo-Confederates, neo-Nazis and militias.

Besides Salem and Charleston, other US cities that will be able to view a total solar eclipse include Idaho Falls, Idaho; Casper, Wyoming; Lincoln, Nebraska; Kansas City, Missouri; and Nashville, Tennessee.

While solar eclipses aren't uncommon, this one is significant. Why? Many people find the sun too bright even at shade 12 filter, while others find it too dim at Shade 14 but shade 13 filters can be hard to find. Similarly, do not look at the sun through a camera, telescope, binoculars or any other optical device while using your eclipses glasses or handheld solar viewer.

The University of Texas will have a heliostat at a free viewing event to project the solar eclipse to a room at the department's 13 floor, which holds about 30 people.

Have you tried looking up at the sun with your naked eye? Special eclipse glasses will be provided for all visitors the day of the event. Rangers will be there to talk about the eclipse, as well as answer questions.

"That's a concern when people are using bigger, longer lenses that are magnifying the sun where you definitely need a filter in front of those", Symes said. The eye gear must be designated ISO 12312-2, meaning they meet the eye protection requirements for the direct observation of the sun.
