Philippe Coutinho Reportedly Willing to Strike to Force Barcelona Move

17 Août 2017

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde is desperate to sign reinforcements after seeing his side suffer a 5-1 aggregate defeat to bitter rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.

Paulinho looks set to join summer signings Gerard Deulofeu and Nelson Semedo at the Camp Nou on Thursday in a €40m move from Guangzhou Evergrande - but fans of the Catalan club are petitioning for the club to sign at least one true star to replace the €222m Brazilian.

Speaking after a 2-1 win at his old hunting ground Hoffenheim in Tuesday night's Champions League qualifier, Firmino told the Liverpool Echo, "I prefer to not think of this (Coutinho leaving) because it would be bad".

Coutinho has been heavily linked with a move to the Camp Nou after handing in a transfer request at Anfield, although Liverpool insist the Brazil worldwide is not for sale and have already rejected a £90.4m offer from Barcelona.

"Until deals are closed I can't say anything".

He told Spanish television station TV3: "Coutinho and Dembele are both close".

Having already had two bids rejected, Barcelona have upped the ante in their quest to land Liverpool play-maker Philippe Coutinho.

Barcelona are now looking at alternatives to fill the void left by the Brazilian and have identified Dembele as the flawless replacement and have made contact with his current employers Borussia Dortmund about a move this summer.

"We know we have to strengthen this team and that is what we are doing", Segura added.

"About that we have Messi-dependence, in the end when you have the best player in the world in your team you know that the more he participates the better for the team".

As for Ousmane Dembele, he went on strike at the club last week and has supposedly flown to Barcelona in anticipation of a deal being completed.
