6 things we want to see in Marvel's The Defenders

17 Août 2017

That's right - despite the truncated episode run, The Defenders falls victim to the same interminable slow-burn malaise that's afflicted most of the Marvel shows to date. Cage has to get out of prison and reconnect with his new love interest Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson); Jones has to balance her careers as a private detective and a fall-down drunk; Daredevil has to fix his legal career and sulk in confessional; and Iron Fist has to continue his war against the mysterious Hand, the aforementioned crime syndicate.

The series will pick up after the events of Iron Fist and will feature Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra, who will be the big bad for the series.

"Everybody's so used to working on their own, they all feel that their way is the best way", said Mike Colter, who plays Cage, at a roundtable with journalists in NY.

The Defenders will hit Netflix on August 18th 2017, with Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Scott Glenn (Stick), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing) and Elodie Yung (Elektra) appearing alongside Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra. Weaver's casting is flawless for the role, bringing gravitas and menace to a character who is also desperately vulnerable in ways we won't spoil.

Panamagate case: SC allows NAB access to volume 10 of JIT report
However, NAB had filed an application with the top court last week, requesting complete certified copies of the report. NAB authorities also stated that the Supreme Court has not clearly directed to reopen the Hudaibiya case.

The amusing thing about seeing all of Netflix's Defenders fighting together is that when you think about it, they all kinda have a variation of the same archetypical superpower. A second season was announced, as was Jessica Jones. "I just approach it like I would any other acting part". We here at Culturess are so excited to see what epic things are going to happen when four super-powered people finally get to team up!

For those who have fully invested in the franchise though, The Defenders showrunner Marco Ramirez seems to have responded subtly to viewer reception of earlier shows. The reluctance of Jones and the others to formally come together, and then endlessly bickering when they do, is actually a nice nod to the very different origins of The Defenders in the comics. Iron Fist has the only visually showy power, and that often takes a back seat.

Iron Fist is the lowest rated series of the Marvel Netflix family, its rating settled at an abysmal 17% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
