As it stands today, the Dallas Cowboys will be without starting running back Ezekiel Elliott for the first six games of the 2017 regular season. The NFL Players Association said it was reviewing the decision and had been in touch with Elliott's representatives to consider his options.
Schefter was the first to report Elliott's suspension on August 11, and he added at the time that the superstar running back was expected to appeal.
National Football League officials said in a statement Friday that it investigated Elliott's case thoroughly and determined that he violated the personal conduct policy.
The league said its investigation was based on photographs, text messages and other electronic evidence.
Elliott was never arrested and not charged by the Columbus Ohio City Prosecutor, a situation that continues to befuddle the Cowboys as they try to wrap their head around the league's decision.
Elliott's suspension stems from domestic violence allegations made against him previous year in Ohio.
Garrett refused to comment on whether he thought Elliott might win his appeal and be available for the season opener against the New York Giants.

The L.A. Rams kick off preseason Saturday night with a game against the Dallas Cowboys.
There are many players on the current preseason roster of the Dallas Cowboys who could battle their way onto the roster, but there are a handful entering the second preseason game for the franchise who many should just watch a little closer. "We prepared our team accordingly by building it the right way".
The league also noted an incident during a St. Patrick's Day parade in Dallas this year, when Elliott pulled down a woman's shirt, exposing and touching her breast.
This is also going be a test for the sophomore season of QB Dak Prescott, who relied heavily on Elliott to help balance the offensive attack of the Cowboys and would often rely on the run to run over defenses for early leads.
